“From what I’ve heard about Scott, he sounds as if he was an incredible person. I am so tremendously grateful that you have used his story to increase awareness about all GI cancers.”
Inspired By Heroism Committed to Service
The Sterling Promise Foundation exists to honor the life of Staff Sergeant Scott Sterling, who passed away in April 2021 after a heroic battle with colorectal cancer. Scott served in the 75th Ranger Regimental Reconnaissance Detachment and 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment–Delta.
Following his service, Scott had a successful civilian career with leading companies that developed and deployed world-class equipment to the next generation of soldiers serving inthe military.
“Get busy living…or get busy dying” (a line from his favorite film, Shawshank Redemption) was a concept Scott lived by. The Sterling Promise Foundation keeps this idea as an ongoing internal challenge; we exist to help those who served in the US Army Special Operations—so they can keep getting busy living.
Scott was relentless about his service. After completing basic training, Infantry AIT, Airborne School and the Ranger Indoctrination Program, Scott was assigned to 1st Ranger Battalion. Soon after his arrival, Scott attended Ranger School and earned the coveted Ranger Tab enabling him to become a team leader. He went on to successfully complete both the Military Free Fall Course and the highly demanding Combat Diver Qualification Course. Scott was later selected for assignment as a Reconnaissance Specialist in the 75th Ranger Regimental Reconnaissance Detachment (RRD). Scott excelled, and became a HALO Jumpmaster and Combat Dive Supervisor (Honor Graduate) while serving in a W9 billet (HALO/SCUBA) in RRD. He went on to successfully complete Delta Force Selection and attended the year long Operator Training Course (OTC) before being assigned to A Squadron.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
